Clinton Police arrested two brothers for burglarizing a town library early Sunday.
Police stopped Joseph Keeney, 35, Killingworth, as he was running on the I-95 southbound ramp near exit 63 around 3:15 a.m. Keeney appeared highly intoxicated, had numerous scratches on his hands, legs and face. He was in possession of many one-dollar bills and a hand tool that is normally used to extricate people trapped in vehicles.
While Keeney was detained, police located and arrested his brother, Robert Keeney, 29, Killingworth, who was waiting in a car in a nearby parking lot.
Police questioned both brothers and said they gave conflicting statements.
After canvassing the area, authorities noticed the nearby Henry Carter Hull Library had been broken into and burglarized. They determined Joseph Keeney forced his way into the library and stole cash. He was running back to his brother in the parking lot when he was stopped by police.
Joseph Keeney faces burglary and larceny charges, and is being held on $50,000 bond. Keeney’s brother, Robert was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and is being held on $5,000 bond.
Both Keeney's are scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 23 in Middletown Superior Court.
