Charla Nash will not be able to get a face and hand transplant to repair damage after a brutal chimp attack last year.
Nash has been staying at the Cleveland Clinic, which performed the nation's first face transplant, and hospital staff told the family they can't perform the transplants for her, according to Bill Monaco, attorney for Charla Nash.
Travis, a 200-pound chimpanzee, went berserk in February after its owner asked Nash to help lure him back into her house. The animal ripped off Nash's hands, nose, lips and eyelids.
Nash’s family is now looking into alternative facilities. Transplants must be done simultaneously and come from the same donor, Monaco said.
The Associated Press left a telephone message at the hospital on Monday.
