School Bus Crime Spree

A New Britain man is under arrest for stealing a school bus and using it for a crime spree. Thomas Zouhar, 43, stole the mini-bus Thursday, according to police, when the bus driver left the bus running to use the restroom. Zouhar then went to Cromwell, tried to break into one home, and successfully got into another home and stole a television, according to police. He abandoned the bus and television in a supermarket parking lot. Police found Zouhar inside the supermarket. He faces several larceny and burglary charges.

Armed Heist Turns Into Double Shooting

New Haven police are investigating a late night double shooting that occurred during an armed robbery. Police say the victims were confronted by two armed men when they went to a store for food around midnight Thursday. Police say one of the robbers fired his gun, hitting one of the victims in the arm. The two men who had been robbed then ran to their car and fled, but police say the robbers gave chase and caught up with the victims on Chapel Street. The robbers fired more shots, hitting one of the victims in the head. There's no word on the conditions of the two shooting victims.

Illegal Immigrant Scheme

Two Danbury men are facing federal prison after pleading guilty to making face documents for illegal immigrants. Renato Ferreira, 37 and Gilderley Batista DeAndrade, 38, are accused of making seven sets of counterfeit documents for illegal immigrants living in Danbury between June and August. They pleaded guilty in New Haven Superior Court on Thursday. The two men face up to five years in prison when they are sentenced Feb. 6.

Suicidal Man Does Time For Apartment Arson

A Naugatuck man is facing decades in prison after being convicted of arson for burning down an apartment complex during a standoff with police. Ryan Ramey, 31, was convicted of arson for burning down the six-family complex on High Street, where he lived in October of 2006. He set the house on fire during an apparent suicide attempt, according to police.
