Some Fair Haven residents had a restless night when cops found a Mercedes loaded with explosives parked in their neighborhood.

Police surrounded the car at Clinton and Grand avenues late Tuesday night and made the shocking discovery – inside the car were pipe bombs, rifles and propane tanks, police said.

They moved neighbors away from danger and called in the bomb squad, who detonated the explosives right there.

Cops have arrested Jessup Bollinger, 27, of New Haven and 38-year-old John Iannucci of Branford.  Both have been charged withbomb-making and possession of explosive agents.

"Our officers did an excellent job handling this incident," said Assistant Chief of Police Ken Gillespie.

What those explosives were meant for, police are not sure. Residents were allowed back into their homes early Wednesday morning.
