Local Fallen Soldiers Remembered

It’s become a painful but proud tradition in Hartford. Five more fallen soldiers from Connecticut will be added to the Wall of Honor at the Legislative Office Building.

In the past year, five soldiers from Connecticut died during their service in Iraq and Afghanistan

Army Captain Benjamin Sklaver, Army Sergeant Ronald Spino, Army Sergeant Edward Kramer, Marine Corporal Xhacob LaTorre, and Marine Lance Corporal Tyler Griffin.

Their pictures were placed among 44 other men and women who were killed since both wars began.

“Are you sure this is what you really want to do?” asked Carmen LaSalle, the aunt of Marine Corporal LaTorre and she read a letter from his mother. “He answered, yes mom, I want to be a Marine.”

One soldier not on the wall yet is Staff Sergeant Edwin Rivera. He was shot last week in Afghanistan and died Tuesday at Walter Reed Hospital. He will be added to the Wall of Honor next year as the 50th Connecticut solider killed during the two wars.
