Connecticut will soon be wheeling and dealing with Howie five days a week. The NBC show "Deal or No Deal" is moving its models and briefcases to Connecticut.
The half-hour game show, hosted by Howie Mandel, will start shooting this summer at Sonalysts Studios in Waterford, Variety reports. The reason is a tax break -- a 30 percent production tax credit.
"Deal's" new home has been used by musical acts such as Aerosmith and Alicia Keys for tour rehearsals. Steven Spielberg also filmed a portion of "Amistad" there.
The Sonalysts complex is just off Interstate 95 and, interestingly, the cavernous studio is located below ground.
"Deal" follows in the footsteps of Maury Povich's “Maury'' moving here from from New York and "Jerry Springer" and “The Steve Wilkos Show'' coming from Chicago. Those shows will be filmed in a new Stamford studio, separate from where "Deal" is set to be taped.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell told Variety the agreement would help the state economy.
"This is tremendous news for Connecticut and its ever-growing film and television industry," Rell said in a statement to Variety. "We've done everything we can to make our state an attractive and economically smart place to make good film and TV -- and you can see it paying off."
