Concern about job losses and the state’s unemployment rate has state officials concerned and proposing plans to get people back to work. In the meantime, job fairs are picking up in the state.
On Wednesday, jobs were part of Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s State of the State address and she said she would announce proposals to create jobs.
Earlier in the week, the Majority Leaders’ Jobs Group made its own recommendations to jump-start job creation in Connecticut, focusing on green jobs and energy efficiency, realignment of tax credits and smarter government workings.
House Majority Leader Denise Merrill said she was motivated to “make Connecticut competitive again.”
The group recommended ways to activate job growth, including investing in all stages of business growth, providing export assistance to companies, investing in mass transit and educating a workforce for in-demand jobs.
And, then there are the job fairs.
- Feb 8: Hartford Career Fair at the Marriott Hartford Downtown, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Feb. 23: Career Rookie Virtual Career Fair, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- March 4: Advance Healthcare Job Fair & Career Event at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- June 10: Connecticut Business Expo at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.
College career fairs:
- Feb. 4: Career Fair at Fairfield University. 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- March 27: Manchester Career Fair at Manchester Community College, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- April: 7: Western Connecticut State University Career Fair, from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
- April 8: Central Connecticut State University Spring Career Fair, from 1 to 5 p.m.
- April 13: Southern Connecticut State University Career Fair, from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
