Lebanon Little League Needs Your Vote

Ryan Skaff, 9, knows practice time is precious for his Lebanon Little League team.

"The softball players get those fields and we have to practice on those fields down there," Skaff said, as he pointed to a field behind Lebanon Elementary School.

Some teams only get to practice five times a season. That's because the League's 20 baseball teams and six softball teams all share the two fields on school grounds.

"There are only two fields here for that many kids and there's just no way to accommodate them," said Little League President A.J. Dunnack.

That's why the kids have been raising money to turn an open field in town called Tyler Field into three more ball fields.

They've raised more than $85,000 so far. That's enough money to pave the driveway and parking lot, but Little League Vice President Jamie Bender says they need more to make the diamonds.

"We're almost there," said Bender. "This $50,000 would take us to the end point where we can have three usable fields."

The Lebanon Little League is up against 100 other programs going for a $50k grant from Pepsi's Refresh Project.

To win the money, the League has to be one of the top 10 vote getters. As of Tuesday night, they were ranked 35. That means 25 more spots to go.

"I really hope we get it," said 10-year-old player Brendan Wood.

Anyone can vote online until the end of the month, so the Lebanon Little League has been passing out fliers to anyone who will take them.

"We've gone to Walmart parking lots, Home Depot, doctor's offices, Subway, grinder shops," League President A.J. Dunnack said. "Everyone has been passing them out -- husbands, wives, grandmothers, grandfathers, coworkers, friends."

The League hopes to hit this one out of the park to give the kids another place to play ball.

"It's my favorite sport, so it's really important," 9-year-old Skaff said.
