A woman is incredibly lucky after her car sunk into a water-filled sinkhole. Her car? Not so lucky.

The woman, who has not been identified, tried to avoid a deer on Old Roberts Road in East Hartford around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday and swerved to avoid it, only to hit a fire hydrant.

The hydrant opened and water started shooting out, 100 feet in the air.

The woman called 911, summoning an emergency crews that was shorthanded because of an East Hartford fire. They did not know right away that they would have to extricate her, but once they did, it took five minutes to pull her out of the car.

It’s a good thing it did not take longer because less than a minute after emergency crews pulled her from the car, it began to submerge into a sinkhole.

The woman has a heart condition, so she was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
