Near Riot in Hartford Caught on Camera

Police are investigating a wild melee in downtown Hartford

It brought traffic to a halt, disrupted business and even left several people shaking.

Now, video of the near-riot has made it to YouTube.

"They're screaming they're yelling, they all have their phone out taking pictures," said one downtown business owner who did not want to be identified for fear of retailation.

The fight broke out just after school ended on Sept. 10.

Many of the students involved attend Hartford Public High School and meet at the intersection of Asylum and Main everyday to catch a public bus. Business owners tell NBC Connecticut there have been several fights since school started three weeks ago, but the one on Friday was the biggest yet.

"There was a huge fight out front. There was a bunch of kids all getting through into our windows. Everybody was fighting everywhere. It just totally killed business," said Jessica Rose, the manager at Koji Sake Bar.

Both the Hartford Police Department and school district have seen the video and are looking into it. Officers have already arrested one person and several students have been suspended from school.

Business owners say the increased police patrols have helped, but fear the damage has already been done.

"It kills business. We're tryng to run a business and bring customers in and when there's kids constantly fighting and yelling out front it detours people from coming in here," said Rose.
