Westport is honoring the late Paul Newman with a gift of nature and open space.
It sounds like a perfect spot to grab some Newman's Own organic lemonade, his signature salad dressing, and have a picnic.
The town is creating a 37-acre nature preserve on the lot next to his former home.
Joanne Woodward, Newman's widow, posed the idea in January through a letter to the local council. The Newman/Poses Preserve, which is named after Newman and the family that previously owned the location, will include walking paths and benches. There will be a ban on developing the location.
Woodward writes, "preserving the Poses property in its natural state is something I very much believe Paul would have loved to see happen. Paul always expressed regret that he was not able to accomplish this himself, so I think if there were to be anything at all done by the town to honor Paul’s memory this would be a very generous and appropriate tribute to him."
The Newman family proposed that the Aspetuck Land Trust work with the town to help maintain the existing trails on the property and create new ones, according to Wesportnow.
Westport First Selectman Gordon F. Joseloff told the Web site that the town has been in discussions with the Trust to achieve this.
The late actor is being honored indoors in at Lincoln Center in New York in June. You can attend "ACelebration of Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall Camps," along with celebs like Robert Redford and Julia Roberts,
