A sixth person has been charged in connection with the murder of UConn football player Jasper Howard.
De'quan Muhammad, 18, of Hartford, was arrested Monday and charged with hindering prosecution.
Howard was stabbed outside a University-sanctioned dance at the student union in Storrs on Oct. 18. A fight broke out after someone pulled the fire alarm. Howard was killed. Brian Parker, a 19-year-old UConn sophomore wide receiver, was also stabbed during the fight, according to police documents.
Police say Muhammad twice denied any knowledge of the stabbing and said so in a written statement. However, he has told more than one person that he witnessed the incident, cops say. Muhammad remains behind bars on $200,000 bond.
John Lomax, 21, of Bloomfield, was charged with Howard’s murder. His bond was set at $2 million. Lomax's attorney, Deron Freeman, denies that his client stabbed Howard.
Jamaal Todd, 21, of West Hartford, is accused of pulling the fire alarm and he is due in court on Nov. 10.
Hakim Muhammad, 20, has been charged with conspiracy to commit assault.
Johnny Hood, 21, was charged with interfering with an officer and breach of peace.
Last week, police arrested Christopher Mutchler, 18, of Wethersfield and accused him of posting threatening messages on a Facebook memorial page in honor of Howard. Police said Mutchler had no link or relation to the other people arrested in the case and don’t know what his motive for posting the comments could have been. They also said the threats seem to have been empty.
