Clinton town historian Doris Kelsey is making history of her own.  The 90-year-old will be the first Connecticut nursing home resident to visit friends and family via web cam.

Peregrine's Landing at the shoreline care center just installed two portable live web cams for its residents.  Assisted living center director, Meg Durlach, says it's a great way to replace costly cross-country trips that many residents aren't able to take during the holidays.  Compared to a flight that can run several hundred dollars,  web cam technology typically costs less than $50.

Users say web cams are easy to use and much more personal than a phone call.  Family members of all 11 residents at the facility will receive the technology to help them stay in touch year-round.

For Doris Kelsey it will be as close to visiting her son in California as she can get.  She said it's even more heart-warming than the letters she receives in the mail.
