Thousands of Connecticut residents remain in the dark as power crews fanned out across the state trying to get the lights back.  Heavy ice covered trees brought down power lines knocking out electricity to nearly 15,000 CL&P and United Illuminating customers on Wednesday.  To see the latest report, click here.

State and local police departments also responded to dozens of accidents and several roads were closed due to icy conditions and downed trees.  In the hardest hit towns like Newtown, major roads were shut down for hours.  Downed power lines closed Route 34 and Route 302. To check your route, click here.  The town also opened a temporary shelter Wednesday night at  the middle school on Queen Street.

Bradley International Airport also reported many cancellations, asking ticket holders throughout the day to check with their carriers before heading to the airport. You can get to Bradley's Web site here.

The wet mess will likely bring more icy conditions Thursday morning. Click here to read the latest NBC 30 weather forecast.
