The G-Men are returning to New London to help battle hate crimes and domestic terrorism.

The F.B.I. is reestablishing an office in the city next month, Special Agent Ron Offutt said.

He delivered the news during the Jewish Federation of Eastern Connecticut’s annual meeting at Congregation Beth El in New London, the Norwich Bulletin reports, and said threats against synagogues and other Jewish targets are lingering.

“Hate crimes are something we deal with regularly,” Offutt told the Bulletin. He is assigned to the New Haven office.

The FBI disbanded its previous New London office about five years ago. The new office will be near Union Plaza and have a capacity for up to 18 agents, will help target terrorist groups.

According the FBI Web site, more than 100 special agents and 75 support staffers are assigned to Connecticut.

The main office is in New Haven with satellite offices in Bridgeport and Meriden.
