First thing Monday morning, the staff at St. Augustine School on Clifford Street in Hartford noticed something was wrong.

Principal Cynthia Niedbala discovered the mess when she arrived to work. "This was dreadful. Horriffic," said Niedbala. "It's just unbelievable."

Three new computers and printers and $20,000 in cash and checks were stolen over the weekend, Hartford Police said.  Their investigation revealed that someone broke into the main office and other rooms.

"Typically there's no money in this office but I had several families come late on Friday to pay their tuition," said Niedbala.

As the police investigation continues, teachers and administrators at the school are focused on the start of the school year, which happens Wednesday. "We're very saddened that this happened, but we are moving forward," said Niedbala.

St. Augustine School is a Catholic School under the Archdiocese of Hartford.  It has been serving children in Hartford's South End since 1927.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact the Hartford Police Department at 860-757-4250.
