Suspect Captured With Alert Mother's Instincts

An alert neighbor on a Branford street helped nab a suspected burglar around 10 a,m, on Wednesday.

Wendy Giordano was getting her children ready for the day when she looked out her front window and noticed a strange car driving down their dead end street and pulled in to her neighbor’s driveway.

“He got out. ... It was a man I didn't recognize. He was wearing black. He didn't look like he was there to shovel snow or clean the house,” she said.

Then, she saw him going around to the back of the house.

Giordano knew her neighbors weren’t home, so she immediately called police.

Within minutes, Branford Police officers swarmed the house.

“(There were) a lot of police, guns drawn, and the Branford Police did an amazing job getting here quickly,” a neighbor who identified herself as Michele said.

Police spotted the man coming out of the house.

Soon after they arrested Christopher Teneyck, of Branford.

"That's the hardest part, knowing that somebody came in their house and went through their stuff,” Giordano saod.

Branford residents have been on alert for months about burglaries because of a large number happening in town.

Neighbors have been receiving telephone calls and leaflets from the department notifying them about what to look out for.

“The only thing we can do is be concerned neighbors, and if something is not right, make a call. It won't hurt,” Giordano said.

Teneyck was charged with third-degree burglary and was being held on $25,000 bond.
