Upping the Ante on Cold Cases

The next time inmates play Texas Hold ‘em, the face of Billy Smolinski, Erika Cironi, or another victim of an unsolved case could be staring back at them.

The state is handing out special playing cars at correctional facilities in hopes that the information leads to solving some cold cases.

The deck includes 52 unsolved homicides, missing persons and unidentified remains cases.

The goal is that prisoners will gab as they are upping the ante and betting on cigarettes or whatever else inmates bet on while playing gin or Go Fish.

Cironi, who has been missing since Dec. 31, 2006, is the 6 of diamonds. She was last seen in Norwich.

Smolinski is the Jack of hearts.

Here is a link to open cases that go back decades in some cases. Mary Badaracco has been missing since August 1984
