Wethersfield, Farmington Open Emergency Shelters

Thousands of residents in Wethersfield and Farmington are still without power Sunday. Just over 2,000 customers in Wethersfield, and around 1,800 in Farmington are in the dark as of 2:00 p.m. The number of outages statewide stands at just over 4,500 Sunday afternoon, as utility crews work to restore power.
An emergency shelter has been open in the Town of Wethersfield since Friday evening. The shelter is located at the William J. Pitkin Community Center, located at 30 Greenfield Street. Residents needing shelter due to damaged homes or if they are experiencing any health issues are encouraged to report. Cots and bedding are being provided. Residents are being asked to bring any medications they take with them.
The Town of Farmington's emergency shelter will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Farmington High School, located at 10 Monteith Drive. Water, facilities, and power for recharging cell phones and other electronic devices will be available. Residents utilizing the shelter are asked to make arrangements for petcare with friends or relatives if at all possible.
Farmington's compost facility at Tunxis Meade will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday to serve residents disposing of storm debris.
