About 100 North End residents attended a meeting with police last week, to demand action be taken against those rowdy Sacred Heart University students, the Connecticut Post reported.

The homeowners told police they've had to pick up garbage left by the students, had their lawns urinated on, and had their mailboxes damaged several times.

Sacred Heart University is located in Fairfield, but several students live off-campus, just across the town line in Bridgeport.

Many residents were angry with police for not arresting all 150 students who attended a now-infamous "beach party" at a home on Calvin Avenue in September, the paper reported.  The students living there had more than two tons of sand shipped into the home for the party.

Acting Police Chief Joseph Gaudet told the crowd arresting all of those students wouldn't have the same effect as the punishment delivered by the University.

The four students who rent the home were suspended from school for a week, had to perform 25 hours of community service, barred from participating in any student activities for the rest of the semester and put on probation for the rest of the year, the Connecticut Post reported.

SHU is forming an Off-Campus Student Relations Board, which Dean of Students Larry Wielk says will work with his office.  "We will continue to vigilantly address any issues that arrise and will not tolerate inappropriate behavior on or off campus."

Others complained about cars clogging streets during late-night parties, and racing down the street afterwards.  Gaudet said he would consider setting up DUI checkpoints and speed traps in the area, the paper reported.
