Dear Diary Leads to Teacher's Arrest



    West Hartford Police

    A  former West Hartford music teacher was charged with sexual assault after a former student's diary was found in some trash.

    West Hartford police arrested Joseph Anthony Marino, 42, of Wethersfield after someone found the diary, which detailed a several-month-long sexual relationship between the two, police said.

    "With the help of the Wethersfield Police Department, someone found a diary in the garbage and we found that it was related to the West Hartford student," said Lt. Donald Melanson.  

    Marino resigned from his job as a music teacher at Conard High School earlier this month. reports that Marino had been an employee in West Hartford schools since 1998.

    The Hartford Courant reports that Marino was the student's babysitter and she graduated from the high school in May.

    Marino was released on a $50,000 bond and is due in court on Aug. 26.
