A woman suffered minor injuries during a house fire in Lyme Monday, according to a fire official on scene.
Fire officials said they received a 911 call from a passerby reporting smoke coming out of the home at 215 Joshua Town Road around 4:47 p.m.
Lyme Fire Company Chief Jamie Leatherbee said the caller knocked on the door and convinced a woman inside the home to get out. The woman had been opening windows trying to get the smoke out, Leatherbee said.
They found the home heavily involved when they arrived. The woman inside the house was taken to the hospital with what Leatherbee described as minor injuries.
He said the situation is a good reminder of what to do in a fire emergency.
“If you have smoke in your house, get out. Let the firemen do their job," he said.
There are no hydrants in the area, which slowed firefighting efforts. Photos from the scene show the structure completely gutted by the fire.
