An 18-year-old from New Haven is in critical condition after being shot in the eye with a paintball, police said.
Elroy Preston Hall Jr. was rushed to Yale-New Haven hospital around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday after witnesses reported seeing him slip and fall at 24 Truman Street, authorities said.
According to police, Hall suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of the shooting. He reportedly told his mother that he was hurt, but no one called for help until he collapsed.
Police are looking for the 17-year-old from Cassius Street who they say shot Hall in the face. The suspect is on probation and could face a number of charges, including second-degree assault.
Witnesses told police that that Hall and the suspect were “playing around” with a paintball gun and an air rifle. Police believe this was not their first time playing with the guns.
Police confiscated the weapons and are actively investigating.
Hall remains in critical condition.
