2 Arrested After Crash During Illegal Race Kills Man in Stratford: PD

Investigators have arrested two men in connection to a deadly accident that happened in Stratford in April.

According to police, 23-year-old Aaron Perkins of Bridgeport and 29-year-old Ronald Patterson of Bridgeport were racing on Lordship Boulevard near Access Road when Patterson missed a turn in the roadway and lost control of his vehicle while speeding. Patteron's vehicle went off the road, hit a tree and came to rest near a marsh.

A passenger in Patterson's vehicle, Dawaan Edwards, died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigators say Patterson and Perkins gave statements to detectives that a non-contact vehicle was involved in the incident and caused the crash. After looking at video surveillance and evidence at the scene, detectives determined there was no other vehicle in the area at the time of the crash.

Police say Perkins is facing charges including interfering with an officer, misuse of plates, operating an unregistered car and illegal racing. He was released on $2,000 bond.

Patterson is facing charges including illegal racing, negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, operating without a license, interfering with officer, misconduct with a motor vehicle, manslaughter with a motor vehicle and operating under the influence. He was held on a $100,000 bond.
