Police received reports of bear sightings in Westport on Friday morning. One was in the Charcoal Hill Road section of towns and the other was in the Easton Road section.
Black bear sightings are not common in Westport and police urge anyone who sees one to watch it from a distance, avoid feeding bears and announce your presence by shouting and waving your arms or walking away slowly.
Report any bear sightings to the Wildlife Division at (860) 675-8130.
The last time the Westport Police Department received reports on a black bear sighting was on June 25 near the Merritt Parkway.
