2 Convicted Felons Charged in 2010 New Haven Murder

New Haven police have charged two convicted felons in a 2010 murder.

Nathan “Lizard” Johnson, 34, and Errie “Buck” McClendon, 24, both of New Haven, have been charged with the murder of 30-year-old Kenneth Thomas.

Police started investigating when the ShotSpotter went off around 4 a.m. on April 10, 2010 and officers responded to Orchard and Charles streets, where they found Thomas, who’d been shot twice in the neck.

He was in grave condition when crews rushed him to Saint Raphael’s Hospital, but he soon died.

As the investigation began, police had little to go on. There was little physical evidence at the scene and police could not find witnesses, police said.

In 2013, a $25,000 reward was offered for tips in the case.

New Haven Police are offering a $25,000 reward for the 2010 murder of Kenneth Thomas.

At some point, new information was discovered, leading police to identify Johnson and McClendon as suspects and police obtained warrants on Tuesday, July 21.

Johnson was already serving a 70-year sentence for robbing and shooting a man in 2011, leaving the victim paralyzed.

He has been charged with felony murder, murder and gun charges in the Thomas murder case.

McClendon, who is in prison for drug sales, has been charged with felony murder and gun charges in the case.

Although they are already incarcerated, Johnson and McClendon are held on $750,000 bonds.

Police will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. about the case.
