Woman Dead, Man in Critical Condition After Fire at Torrington Home

A 68-year-old woman is dead and a 65-year-old man remains in critical condition after a three-alarm fire at a Torrington home Thursday night, according to fire officials.

The fire started in a home on Stoneridge Drive around 9:17 p.m. Thursday and the initial reports were that people might be trapped inside.

Fire officials said the man was outside the house when firefighters arrived and they found the woman inside the home.

Both patients were flown to Bridgeport Hospital’s burn unit. Fire officials said Friday afternoon that the female victim died from her injuries.

The state and local fire marshal’s office are investigating to determine how and where the fire started.

It’s not clear if the house had working smoke detectors.

No additional information has been released.
