$20 for a $1,000 Purse Is No Employee Discount: Cops

It would be unheard of to get a $900 Chloe purse for $20, especially at Nordsrom. That’s why the company’s loss prevention unit started investigating an employee in the Westfarms store.

Over two months, police say, Shelly Ann Blackman, 19, of New Britain, was getting more than an employee discount. She's accused of marking down expensive shoes and bags and stole almost $5,000 from the store.

She used her employee ID, as well as her coworkers identifications, to get major discounts, Farmington police said. In the case of the Chloe bag, she had it transferred from a store in New York, Farmington police said.

She’s also accused of stealing $495 Tory Burch shoes for $25.77, $160 Nike Air Max sneakers for $10.90, three pairs of Via Spiga shoes, each selling for around $200, marked down to $6 to $8 dollars, $295 Vera Wang shoes for 24.90 and a $695 Marc Jacobs bag for $25. In all, Blackman is accused of stealing $4,699.80 worth of items.

Blackman is due in Hartford Superior Court on Dec. 14 to face larceny charges.
