90 Gallons of Oil Spill from Transformer Explosion

A transformer exploded at the Connecticut Light & Power substation at 2 Hoskins Road in Bloomfield and released around 90 gallons of oil, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and the Bloomfield Fire Department.

Personnel from DEEP’s emergency response are at the scene and working with CL&P environmental officials to determine the most appropriate cleanup strategy.

Officials from CL&P said a 115-volt transmission line that runs between Massachusetts and Connecticut caused the transformer to catch fire and explode.

The fire department cleared the scene and no evacuations were necessary because the explosion happened in a heavily wooded area rather than a residential one.
