A state trooper is recovering in the hospital after he was injured in a crash on Route 89 in Mansfield, police said.

It happened just before 10 p.m. Friday night at the intersection of Route 89 and Center Street, according to the state Dept. of Transportation.

The road is closed while police investigate and work to clear the scene.

Police have not released the details of the crash, but said a police officer was transported to Windham Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police said he was treated and released.

The circumstances are unclear, but police said the injured trooper was assisting another trooper at the time of the crash.
