Weather Causes Power Outages in New Haven, West Haven

Weather knocked out power to over 2,500 customers in West Haven and New Haven Friday night, according to United Illuminating.

A UI spokeswoman says that heavy rains and winds are to blame for a power outage that affected the Hill neighborhood in New Haven and some customers on the West Haven side as well. Around 5:50 p.m. heavy wind and rain came through the area, causing a tree branch to fall onto a primary wire and knock out power.

Crews were able isolate the problem and return power to all customers shortly before 8 p.m.
