2nd Fire in a Week Breaks Out at Torrington Industrial Trailers

Police believe the fire may have been intentionally set.

Fire broke out for the second time in a week early Thursday at trailers used to store raw materials for Mohawk Industries carpeting on Summer Street in Torrington.

According to the fire marshal, two of the two dozen 50-foot trailers on site caught fire and were fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on scene around 1 a.m. Thursday.

Torrington police are investigating and believe the fire may have been intentionally set. Authorities are working to determine the cause of the flames.

The first fire at the company property broke out Oct. 6. There was also a fire at the property in 2009, when the Smurfit Stone Container Corporation occupied the space.

No one was injured in either incident.

Police are searching for surveillance video that could provide clues as to what sparked the flames. Anyone with information is urged to call Torrington police.
