3 Suspects in Custody for Allegedly Robbing Hamden Bank

Three people believed to be linked to the robbery of a Hamden bank on Thursday have been arrested, police said.

Hamden Police responded to the Wells Fargo Bank at 1647 Whitney Ave. at around 2:45 p.m. to investigate a bank robbery and said three armed gunmen who were wearing masks held the employees at gunpoint and ordered a teller to open the cash drawers.

Then the three men fled in a black Mercedes Benz.

Hamden Police briefly pursued the car, but lost sight of it in the area of Skiff Street and Mix Avenue.

Moments later, members of the New Haven Police Department saw the car and the driver continued to flee until crashing into a tree in the area of North Frontage Road and Ella Grasso Boulevard.

New Haven Police quickly apprehended three suspects and turned them over to the Hamden Police Department.

New Haven police said the suspects might also be linked to the robbery of the West Haven Post Office that happened earlier on Thursday but this has not been confirmed.

Derrick White, 51, of Hamden, was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny and conspiracy. He was detained on a $250,000 bond.

Howard Bookert, 18, of Hamden, was arrested on conspiracy charges and detained on a $50,000 bond.

A 17 year-old was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny and conspiracy. The juvenile was remanded to custody.
