Red Light Stop Becomes Big Pot Bust

A Taunton man who cops said ran a red light is in more trouble for what police said was in his car -- 40 pounds of marijuana.

On Saturday, state police working on seat belt patrol made a routine traffic stop on Route 6 in Windham when Jose Santiago, 38, of Taunton, Mass. failed to stop at a red light, police said.

When Troopers searched  Santiago's car, they found two large trash bags filled with marijuana, police said.

Santiago was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana over 1 kilo, failure to obey a red light and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

He was held on $200,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
