An 81-year-old woman who was reported missing from Griswold early Friday morning was found dead a few hours later.
State police issued a Silver Alert for Cecile Zieger, of New Britain, after she was reported missing from her daughter's Griswold home around 6 a.m. Zieger was last seen around 2 a.m., police said.
Troopers used dogs, aircraft and boats to search for Zieger, according to state police.
Around 11:45 a.m., police divers found Zieger's body about 20 feet from shore in the Quinebaug River. The river is not far from the house where Zieger was last seen, according to police.
Detectives secured the scene and began an investigation. There is no apparent criminal aspect to the incident, but the medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of Zieger's death, police said.
