A Happy Groundhog Day It Is

Both Punxsutawney Phil and his Connecticut counterpart, Chuckles VII, agree. An early spring is on the way.

In Manchester, the Lutz Children's Museum was closed Wednesday because of the weather, but that didn't stop Chuckles from going out and making her Groundhog Day prediction. The 3-year-old groundhog did not see her shadow. A shadow siting suggests winter will stick around for six more weeks.

"This has been a tough winter. We needed to get that prediction today," Bob Eckert, executive director of the museum, told the Hartford Courant. "It's Groundhog Day and we had a service to perform."

Eckert said Connecticut residents can safely bet on Chuckles' prediction. She has been correct on her other two predictions since taking over the job three years ago.

"She has 100 percent accuracy. I think we can start getting out our swim trunks," Eckert told the Courant.

In Pennsylvania on Wednesday, Punxsutawney Phil's handlers announced he didn't see his shadow, supporting Chuckles' prediction of an early spring.

This is the 125th year Phil has made his prediction from Gobbler's Knob in central Pennsylvania.
