The American Red Cross is helping about 50 residents of a Groton apartment complex after fire damaged their homes early Monday morning.

The fire at the Long Meadow Landings complex off South Road was reported at about 12:30 a.m. Monday.

Officials say two buildings that house 24 apartments apiece were heavily damaged, leaving dozens of people homeless.

    The cause remains under investigation.
