A former Harvard H. Ellis Technical High School teacher accused of sending sexually explicit text messages to a high school student in Killingly has been in trouble before.

He was suspended two years ago for taking a 17-year-old girl to a party, a school official told the Norwich Bulletin.

Eric Fleming, 41, of Scotland, sent dozens of explicit text messages to a 16-year-old student at the Killingly school, police told the Bulletin. He indicated through his texts that he wanted to start a physical relationship with the student, the Bulletin reports

He was charged Monday with attempted sexual assault and other crimes.

Fleming resigned from his plumbing teacher's job at Ellis in January, two years after transferring from Norwich Technical High School.

State Education Department spokesman Thomas Murphy says Fleming was suspended without pay for one day in 2007 for the party punishment.

There's no public phone listing for Fleming.
