The days of dad slipping downstairs to the basement after the family goes to bed to play with his toy trains are long gone. There are as many as 15,000 people expected to pack the Connecticut Convention Center for the 19th Annual National Train Show.

People from right here in Connecticut, and from all over the globe, have come to Hartford to show off their train displays. The models range from replicas of real train lines, to ones made completely from Legos.

Rich Godfrey, part of the Model Railroad Club of Southern Massachusetts explained how he got into model trains saying, “Most of us got our start loving trains as kids and we never grew up.”

The train show is part of a big weekend for downtown Hartford. The new science center is hoping for big crowds. There will also be live entertainment, and casting for the NBC game show, Deal or No Deal.

Local vendors are hoping the national convention will bring some always-welcome business to their shops.

David Kline who works for Time Machine Hobbies in Manchester has been waiting for the convention to come to Hartford for two years. He says, “Hey we’re here. We’re in Manchester. We’re easy to come to.”
