Amber Alert Suspect Heads Back to New York

Matthew Slocum surrendered peacefully in New Hampshire.

The man wanted for questioning in a triple murder in New York, who triggered a multi-state Amber alert on Wednesday, is on his way back to New York.

Matthew Slocum, 23, surrendered peacefully in New Hampshire on Wednesday night, according to New Hampshire State Police, and waived extradition and is returning to New York to be arraigned, TimesUnion.com reports.

Slocum's girlfriend, Loretta Colegrove, and their, 4-month-old-son, Raymond Slocum, were released unharmed, police said.

The Amber alert was issued on Wednesday afternoon in  Connecticut after police in Washington County, New York connected Slocum to a triple fatal fire there.

The victims include Dan Harrington, a deputy highway superintendent, and his wife, Lisa, town Supervisor Bob Shay told the Associated Press. Dan Harrington's son also died in the early morning fire in White Creek, 35 miles northeast of Albany, the Glens Falls Post-Star reported.

It was unclear on Wednesday how police were connecting Slocum to the fatal fire in a town outside Albany, New York.

Authorities said Lisa Harrington's son, Matthew Slocum, left the scene in a black Ford Mustang and took his son and girlfriend against their will.

Authorities in Connecticut said they were told Slocum might be heading to West Haven, where he has family members. His car was found, unoccupied, in Gilsum, New Hampshire Wednesday afternoon.

The Amber alert was lifted on Wednesday night, Lt. Paul Vance of the Connecticut State Police said.
