Rebuffed Romance Sparked Amber Alert: Cops

Police said Roberto Mones abducted his son in Bridgeport.

An Amber alert for a 2-year-old boy ended early Thursday in New Jersey.

Police said Roberto Mones, 29, kidnapped his 2-year-old son, Christopher Joac, from Bridgeport at 11:19 p.m. on Wednesday after assaulting the boy's mother.

Mones apparently came to the apartment to rekindle his relationship with the woman, but she rebuffed him, sparking the kidnapping, police said.

Mones was intoxicated, suicidal and driving around aimlessly overnight through New York and New Jersey, Bridgeport Police said.

New Jersey police located Mones after Bridgeport police "pinged" his cell phone signal more than 100 times and took Mones into custody.

Bridgeport Police officers went to New Jersey to reunite the toddler with his mother and take Mones into custody.

The mother suffered minor injuries.  The baby was not hurt.

Mones is facing several charged in New Jersey, and will be held there until Bridgeport police secure warrants to extradite him to Connecticut.
