Middletown Police are investigating a crash between an ambulance and a car Sunday afternoon.

The wreck happened just before 3:00 p.m., at Washington Street near Old Mill Road, authorities said.

"The ambulance did not have a patient inside nor was it on it's way to a call," said David Lowell, spokesman for the Hunter Ambulance company.

Lower said a car cut in front of the ambulance, causing it to hit a curb and roll onto it's side.

Police said Rt. 66 is closed and will be shut down until crews can finish cleaning up the scene.

The driver of the car suffered serious injuries.

The driver and passenger of the ambulance were treated and released from Hartford hospital.
