Amtrak Train Involved in Collision in Groton

Authorities responded to Depot Road in Groton on Wednesday night after an Acela Express train hit a pedestrian.

Officials from Amtrak said Acela Express Train 2168 hit a trespasser east of New London at 7:35 p.m. 

No crews members or passengers on the train were hurt.

Amtrak service was disrupted for around 2-and-a-half hours.

Groton police said they were helping Amtrak at the scene but that Amtrak police are leading the investigation. 

This was the second train crash of the day in Connecticut. A man died on Wednesday afternoon when he jumped in front of a Metro-North train in Fairfield.
