Keigwin Middle School is the latest Connecticut school to close due to widespread illness.  The Middletown school, which serves all sixth graders in town, will be closed through the rest of the week.

Officials at the district say they are treating this as a swine flu outbreak because they have not seen seasonal flu in the area yet.

More than 34 percent of students were out sick Monday.

Guilford High School is closed Monday and Tuesday, thanks to absences of more than 40 percent on Friday.  Other Guilford schools are reporting higher than normal absence rates, ranging from 7 to 17 percent.

That district has cancelled all before and after school activities at all schools through Friday, October 30.
