Daniel Caban, 22, of Meriden, is charged with risk of injury to a child.
Daniel Caban, 22, of Meriden, will be back in court in two weeks in connection with the death of a toddler he was living with.
Caban was charged with risk of injury to a child who was pronounced dead on Tuesday. The case is being moved to Part A for a hearing on Oct. 27.
Pedro "Pepe" Garcia III, 23-months-old, was found unconscious on Tuesday and rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed that the little boy died from blunt-force-trauma to the abdomen.
Around 11 p.m. Saturday, police served an arrest warrant on Daniel Caban. Police said the toddler was living with Caban and his mother, Viviana Garcia at the same Gilbert Road address where he was found unresponsive.
Authorities wound not say over the weekend if the charges filed for Caban were in connection with the little boy's death.
On Sunday, a motorcycle club held a ride in Pepe Garcia's honor to help pay for his funeral.
The ride, began on Park Street in Meriden, continued to Pepe's home, where people left cards and flowers and ended at the little boy's wake.
Caban is being held on $200,000 bond. Police said this investigation is not over and further charges might be forthcoming.
