Arrest in Hartford Homicide

Hartford police have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of Shane Oliver, 20, of Hartford.

Oliver was found suffering from a gunshot wound on South Prospect Street just after 4 p.m. on Saturday and was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital about two hours later.

Police have arrested Luis Rodriguez
, 20, and Major Crimes Division detectives took him into custody at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Rodriguez was charged with murder, unlawful discharge of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and reckless endangerment.

He was arraigned in Hartford Superior Court on Thursday and Oliver's mother, Janet Rice, was at Hartford Superior Court.

"I'm here to make sure that the guy that took my only child on Saturday does not walk out that courtroom.  I don't want him to ever see, to ever walk a Hartford street, ever," she said. "His mother can always come to any one of these facilities they put him in and see him,but I can never touch or hold my son again."
