Baby Attacked So Sitter Could Watch TV: Police

A 14-month-old Bridgeport baby is in the hospital fighting for her life after police say serious injuries came at the hands of the babysitter. Police have arrested and charged the babysitter, 24-year-old Keamira Fatal with attempted murder and risk of injury to a minor.

According to police Fatal was watching a television program Tuesday when the baby started to cry.  Fatal got angry when the baby wouldn't stop so she slammed the infants head twice to the ground, police said.  The baby suffered a broken skull, and ribs.

When the tv program was over, Fatal noticed the baby was motionless and called for help. Doctors found injuries to the child's head so police arrested Fatal. She was arraigned Thursday and is being held on $250,000 bail.

Taheera Dixon lives next door to where the baby lived on Ashley Street in Bridgeport. She said she sees the parents often and that they are good people.

"I think it's very frightening," Dixon said.  "I leave mine with my mom or somebody I really trust, a family member."

Doctors at Yale-New Haven hospital say they are optimistic about the child's prognosis, and that she is improving.
