Groomers Shave 7.6 Pounds of Hair Off Badly Neglected Pup

Groomers shaved more than 7 pounds of dirty matted hair off a neglected Cocker Spaniel who was abandoned outside the Connecticut Humane Society sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Officials are trying to figure out who is reponsible for the deplorable condition of the dog, who's been dubbed "Pilgrim" in honor of the holidays this week.

The dog, covered in filthy matted hair soiled with urine and feces, was left outside Waterford shelter at some point between the time staff members left for the day Friday night and returned at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, according to officials from the Humane Society.

Staff members took the dog in, gave him food and water, then called animal control, in compliance with state law.

The dog was in such bad condition he could barely walk, according to the Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control, which put out a plea on Facebook asking a groomer to help clean up the pup.

The Diesel Dog from Hamden and Oliver's Tails from Old Lyme came forward and spent nearly three hours shaving 7.6 pounds of matted hair off the dog.

"Like the original pilgrim, he is now searching for a new home!" Animal Control wrote on Facebook.

Now the animal control officer is trying to find the person who neglected the dog. [[283733341,C]]
