It wasn't band camp, but a band trip that is kept about 100 Newtown students home from school on Monday.

The Newtown High School students took part in a band event in Allentown, Pennsylvania this past weekend when many became ill with flu-like symptoms.

Kids were sent home throughout the weekend so that they wouldn't have anymore contact with classmates, but others began feeling sick on the trip home, or even after arriving home Sunday night.

Until these illnesses, Newtown High had been reporting normal absentee rates, according to Principal Charles Dumais.

School is out Tuesday for Election Day. Dumais says it's unclear if the band students will be asked to stay home on Wednesday as well.
