DEEP Responds for Bear in Tree in West Hartford

West Hartford Police and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded to relocate a black bear found wandering a West Hartford neighborhood Sunday.

DEEP officials confirm that Environmental Conservation Police responded around 3:15 p.m. for a bear in a tree at 20 Lilley Road. When they arrived the animal had wandered to the area of 19 Vanderbilt Road.

Police say the bear is male believed to weigh around 250 pounds. The neighborhood he was found in is a busy, congested area, according to police. They tranquilized the bear and are relocating him to a more suitable forested area.
